This unit allows the derivation of a signal representing low level signal strengths, below the level of most AGC circuits. It filters out the Video and 6MHz sound sub-carriers and then rectifies the resulting noise signal that exists above 7MHz. This signal is a good indicator of signal strength for those signals below the FM compression level when AGC comes into play. The Carrier Detect (CD) level is for the purpose of providing a clear digital signal on a predefined level. In the current design the PIC performs an A-D conversion on the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and the CD level is set within the PIC as an adjustable level.
